Vehicle Age Coverage
The Mercedes-Benz Pass-Thru Kit supports cars and light commercial vehicles equipped with Euro 5 or Euro 6 engines — typically from 2010/2011 onwards.
Note on DoIP Compatibility:
Mercedes-Benz states that for current passenger car and van models, DoIP flashing of the head unit and instrument cluster is not possible until the introduction of BN 206 (C-Class) and BN 223 (S-Class) chassis platforms.
Lite Kit Coverage
The Mercedes-Benz Lite Kit offers broader coverage, supporting cars and light commercial vehicles from 2004 to current, including the latest DoIP platforms without flashing restrictions.

Pass-Thru Support
The Mercedes-Benz Pass-Thru Kit allows direct communication with a vehicle’s ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using manufacturer-authorised software. It supports core functions such as diagnostics and control unit programming via a pass-thru interface.
While programming is technically supported, performance may be limited. Flashing and coding operations—especially on newer DoIP (Diagnostics over IP) vehicles—can be slow, and are subject to functional restrictions. For example, Mercedes-Benz has noted that “flashing of head units and instrument clusters is not possible for current passenger car and van model series up to the introduction of BN 206 and BN 223.”
Pass-Thru Score: 6 out of 10
This rating reflects:
- Vehicle age coverage limits (Euro 5/6, typically 2010/2011 onwards)
- Restrictions on DoIP vehicle programming
- Slower processing times for flashing and coding
- Cost of ownership not significantly lower than XENTRY Lite for multi-brand users
Pass-thru remains a valuable option for independent garages or mobile diagnostics professionals needing periodic access to Mercedes-Benz systems—particularly when complemented by other brand coverage.

Updates and Technical Support
Mercedes-Benz’s Xentry software is updated quarterly, with each major update taking approximately 2–3 hours to install, provided a stable internet connection is available.
In addition, daily ‘Addon’ updates are released to address critical patches and performance improvements. These are best installed at startup, as the software cannot be used during the update process.
Typical time for daily updates: 15–20 minutes, assuming regular use.
Please note: Mercedes allows operation on only one major update behind the current version. If your software is outdated beyond that, your StartKey will become invalid and the software will not launch.

Additional Products
Enhance your diagnostic workflow with the following tools and accessories:
Highly Recommended
- 2D Handheld Barcode Scanner
Required for scanning QR codes on LED and Matrix Headlights during programming.
While smartphone apps exist, they’re often unreliable. A dedicated scanner ensures accurate, automatic input—especially important as some headlamp codes exceed 40 characters.
- Battery Support Unit
Stable voltage is essential during programming, especially when multiple modules (e.g. Transmission & Engine or Left & Right Headlamps) are updated simultaneously.
We recommend the GYS Flash 121.12 CNT for consistent, workshop-grade battery stabilisation.
Optional Add-ons
- Docking Station
Keep your tablet or laptop fully connected and charged in the workshop.
- Diagnostic Workstation Trolley
Organise and transport your diagnostic setup efficiently with a durable, wheeled trolley.
Footnote
Important Information to Keep in Mind:
- Separate Systems:
Due to the separation of Mercedes Truck into Daimler Truck, software for Trucks and Cars/Light Commercial Vehicles can no longer run on the same laptop or tablet. This applies to both Pass-Thru and Diagnosis Lite setups.
- Training & ROI:
Dealer diagnostic tools offer excellent return on investment when operated by trained technicians.
Proper training ensures efficiency and minimises risk.
- Essential Support & Updates:
Software can change daily. Tools require regular updates to stay functional.
Without maintenance, they may cease operation entirely.
- IT Support by Maverick:
You fix the vehicles — we manage the IT.
The Maverick Helpdesk ensures your system is up to date and supported.
- Usage Restrictions:
Dealer tools are not designed for:
- Reprogramming second-hand modules
- Vehicle remapping
These actions violate global security and emissions regulations.
- Connectivity Requirements:
Most dealer tools are cloud-based and require:
- Stable internet speeds over 20 Mbps
- A wired connection to a router or network switch for reliability
- Xentry Login Policy:
Each technician must use their own personal login for Mercedes Xentry.
Sharing credentials with other users or third parties is strictly prohibited.
- FBS4 Key Programming:
To gain authorisation for FBS4 key programming, technicians must complete training module T2814V.
